Since my last update and the aftermath of the Goodwood Revival, the team have been busy planning and preparing for the One Formula exhibition; a chronological walk through my 50 year career, in car design, spanning my time at Brabham, McLaren and finally, Gordon Murray Design.
The idea for the exhibition was first tabled some time ago and at the time, there was no indication as to whether we would be able to gather the key automobiles from my career and assemble them all in one place. Safe to say, we did it, with for the first and possibly only time – almost every race and road car from my 50-year career. The exhibition also celebrates the 10-year anniversary of both the Gordon Murray Design business and iStream manufacturing process, as well as the 25th year since the McLaren F1 road car entered production. I want to thank my old friend Bernie Ecclestone as well as McLaren and private collectors for lending me some of the original Formula One and road cars from my history.
The exhibition turned into an 8 day affair, with almost 1,000 joining us at our new facility at Dunsfold, including guests from McLaren, TVR, the Royal Automobile Club, Woking Hospice and my colleagues, past and present.
On display were 40 different vehicles and designs, including familiar milestone cars as well as those that have never or rarely been on show before. The exhibition charted the history of advanced aerodynamics and composite technology in each of my projects, and features detailed insight into Gordon Murray Design’s ground-breaking iStream® manufacturing technology.
The exhibition opened with the announcement that the new group company, Gordon Murray Automotive and the plans to re-launch the IGM brand, with a new car, employing iStream® superlight.
The press, public reaction and feedback from those who have been lucky enough to join us has been overwhelming and it was fantastic to be reunited with some incredible cars that represent a large proportion of my career. We are currently investigating how we can extend the experience of the exhibition to the wider public, so keep an eye on out on social media or our websites for an announcement very soon.
Now the dust has settled, I want to take this opportunity to thank my team at Gordon Murray Design who have surpassed themselves, PFPR and Showstyle for assisting with the event production, Blue Dot (graphics), Vanilla Bean (catering), Evensure Management (event security) and the team at Dunsfold.
