We have had a busy three months to start 2019 with both Gordon Murray Design and our new company Gordon Murray Automotive which we launched at the One Formula’ exhibition in November 2017.
Last month I paid my annual visit to the Geneva Motor Show which is always a great event to network and catch up with all the latest cars and technologies. Looking around at the affordable sportcar sector it was good to note that there appears to be space for our T.43 iStream Superlight® platform that we launched in September last year. If we are successful with licencing that platform we could be visiting a sportscar stand at Geneva a few years down the road with our T.43 platform centre stage.
I have been working with our Gordon Murray Automotive team for a year now on our supercar design which, I have to say, is looking fantastic – a true successor to the McLaren F.1. This is turning out to be a very nostalgic journey for me as it is exactly 30 years since I picked up my pencils to start designing the F.1. Materials and technology have moved on so much since the nineties that our car promises to once again set new standards in the supercar sector. Our automotive company has a fantastic team of designers and engineers and we are working towards producing the most focused and pure supercar since the F.1.
Last weekend I attended the Bahrain Grand Prix and had a great time catching up with old friends and soaking up the atmosphere at what must be one of the best grand prix races on the calendar.
I have been working on a book with Porter Press titled ‘One Formula’ for about three years now and it has been a long, hard haul to get it finished and ready for print. One of the issues we have had is that over the years I have kept everything – notes, sketches, drawings and correspondence, so the book and archive teams have had a huge task in finding and selecting content. Initially the plan was to have a coffee table book of less than 300 pages but we have ended up with two volumes and nearly 1000 pages! The book is a chronological walk through all of my car designs and inevitably it is also a little biographical. At the time of writing, it is in print and will be officially launched in May.
2019 promises to be a very exciting year for the Gordon Murray Group.
