NEW TVR TO OFFER CLASS-LEADING POWER-TO-WEIGHT RATIO

  • New sports car’s power-to-weight ratio higher than that of all of its rivals

25 July, 2017: TVR’s all-new sports car will boast the highest power-to-weight ratio of any vehicle in its class when it is unveiled at the Goodwood Revival on 8th, 9th and 10th of September 2017. Using innovative design and manufacturing techniques and featuring a carbon fibre construction courtesy of Gordon Murray Design’s revolutionary iStream® architecture, the iconic British sports car maker promises a remarkable 400bhp per tonne.

Weighing just 1200kg and equipped with a 5.0-litre Cosworth-enhanced V8, the new TVR’s power-to-weight ratio surpasses that of all its closest competitors. The Porsche 911 Turbo S and the limited production Aston Martin Vantage GT8 offer 364 and 293 bhp per tonne, respectively, while the Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe and Maserati Granturismo MC Stradale provide 339 and 257 bhp per tonne.

Reversing the trend towards increasing vehicle dimensions, the all new TVR is also the most compact car in its class, measuring 4300mm long (199mm less than a Porsche 911) and 1271mm tall (43mm less than a Jaguar F-Type). Despite its compact dimensions, the interior packaging offers levels of comfort and practicality that clearly reflect the manufacturer’s intention that this will be a suitable car for everyday use.

Featuring a carbon fibre composite structure, and revolutionary iStream® manufacturing process, the new TVR sets a new benchmark for torsional rigidity in its segment. Its revolutionary design also offers exceptional safety, while composite body panels further reduce the vehicle’s kerbweight.

The all new TVR will be officially unveiled to the public at the Goodwood Revival – a first for the world-renowned event. The new car will go on display in the Earls Court building, alongside a display of heritage TVRs in celebration of the British marque’s 70th anniversary.

3.The iStream® assembly process is a complete rethink and redesign of the traditional automotive manufacturing process and could potentially be the biggest revolution in high volume manufacture since the Model T. Development of the process began over 15 years ago and it has already won the prestigious ‘Idea of the Year’ award from Autocar who were given privileged access in order to make their assessment. The simplified assembly process means that the manufacturing plant can be designed to be 20% of the size of a conventional factory. This could reduce capital investment in the assembly plant by approximately 80%. Yet the flexibility of this assembly process means that the same factory could be used to manufacture different variants. The iStream® design process is a complete re-think on high volume materials, as well as the manufacturing process and will lead to a significant reduction in full lifecycle CO2.
